Our team wants to help you look and feel your best. Whether you’re looking for laser hair removal, teeth whitening, or non surgical body contouring, we can help. If you’re coming in for laser hair removal, here are a few things you’ll want to do before your appointment.
Stop Plucking or Waxing
The laser hair removal process targets the root of your hair. If you pluck or wax, you’re pulling out the hair by the root, and this decreases the effectiveness of the treatment. If you want to get the best results from your session, you will want to avoid waxing or plucking your hair for about four to six weeks before your session.
Shave the Area you are Getting Treated
While you shouldn’t pluck or wax your hair right before laser hair removal, you should shave the area the day before. That’s because shaving cuts the longer hairs but leaves the root intact. It also encourages the follicle to enter the active growing stage, which is where you hair should be before a laser treatment.
Shaving will also decrease the chances of any burning since the hair is below the surface of the skin.
Avoid Exposure to the Sun
The laser targets darker pigments as a way to find the hair follicles in your body. Tanning or using self-tanning products can make it more difficult for the laser to work effectively. It is best if you can create the most contrast possible between your skin and your hair.
Plus, direct sun exposure can make your skin more sensitive and that can lead to discomfort during the hair removal process.
Our team is experienced and can help you learn what you can do to improve the effectiveness of your laser hair treatment. Just like there are things you can do to improve body contouring before and after the process, there are things you can do to help your laser hair removal treatment go more smoothly.
Remove Makeup, Body Lotion and Oils from your Skin
There are many ingredients in makeup, lotions, and oils. In some cases, some of these ingredients can affect the laser hair removal results. For about two days before your treatment, you should try to avoid using these products if possible. If you’re getting your underarms treated, avoid wearing deodorant or antiperspirant on the day or your session.
You should also shower right before your appointment (or as close as possible) to not only remove these products, but also to get rid of any oils or dirt that may exists on your skin. Use only simple soap to clean. This will increase the effectiveness of the laser treatment.
Do Not Bleach your Hairs
As mentioned, the laser hair removal process targets your hair follicles by looking for the contrast between your skin and your hair. This targets the hair’s root. If you bleach your hairs, that can make it more difficult for the laser to work effectively. For at least six weeks prior to your session, you should avoid using bleach on your hair. This will let the root return to its original color.
